Breath of Hope

A COVID-19 fundraiser created to support critical medical equipment for Holy Spirit Hospital, Mumbai.

Breath of Hope project cover

A collective response to an urgent healthcare crisis.

During India’s second COVID-19 wave, Kala Akshar worked with organisations across Claremont McKenna College, the Rotaract Club and IIFL Foundation to support urgent relief efforts.

The campaign focused on ventilators and related equipment. At the time, the hospital was caring for almost 200 COVID patients; 70% of its patients were below the poverty line and received highly subsidised care.

The fundraiser invited direct donations, small-business participation and a programme of creative events. Dance, music, visual art, therapeutic writing and community partners helped widen the campaign’s reach.

All proceeds were communicated as being credited directly to the hospital’s bank account.
